Come to where I’m from

4 Sep

After a summer break, we’re back up and running. Here’s the first of many great local opportunities that we’ll be advertising between now and the end of the year:

Paines Plough, the leading company for new writers, is asking playwrights from across the UK to share plays about where they grew up. The Parabola Arts Centre and Paines Plough are looking to commission local writers, be they amateurs or professionals, to write 10-15 minute long plays about what Gloucestershire means to them. The selected plays will be performed by the writers at PAC as part of ‘Come to Where I’m From’.

Places are limited, so don’t hesitate to apply for a chance to be a part of this unique opportunity. If you are interested in taking part, please submit the following:

• An example of your work: a play, chapter from a novel, or a couple of articles. (The work does not have to have been published.)
• Your CV.
• A paragraph about why you want to do the play, how long you’ve lived in the local area and what it means to you.

Please email your submissions to Christina@parabolaartscentre.co.uk

In addition to the plays, Paines Plough is also running two preceding workshops at PAC:

• If it Didn’t Exist You’d Have to Invent it, will take place on October 31st at 7pm and will focus on setting up and running a company.
• Producing Plays, Developing Writers, will run on November 1st at 5pm and will be focused on developing the writer’s work.

Workshops are open to anyone and can be booked separately; tickets are £5 and are available from the box office.

Come To Where I’m From will take place on November 1st at 7.30pm, when the chosen playwrights will read their finished plays. The performance is open to anyone interested in hearing this new work. Tickets are available from the Parabola Arts Centre online or by calling 01242 707 338.

Good luck!
