Dr Duncan Dicks is a novelist, short story writer, and puzzle-solver.  After a long career in mathematics, engineering, and finance he took up writing to relax and couldn’t put it down.  He writes short stories and novels on subjects ranging from ancient Greek philosophers to contemporary British crime.  His MA dissertation, Matlock, a coming-of-age mystery set in Derbyshire, won the Fox-Mason Novel Writing competition.  He is currently investigating the use of crime fiction as a vehicle for social commentary as part of his PhD thesis in Creative Writing.

Duncan has an MSc and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Warwick, an MBA from the Open University, and an MA in Creative Writing from University of Gloucestershire. He also held a Rubik’s Cube world record for 21 years.

He doesn’t believe in free will.
